06. september 2004 Birgit FISCHER (GER) - silver medallist
On winning the silver medal:
"I have been practising for 303 days and won gold and silver. I would have never expected such a result. I was already happy about the fact that I was able to participate here. I want to thank my team that supported me and the girls who competed with me."
On whether she is disappointed about only coming second:
"I am not disappointed at all. These medals are more than I expected. Winning the gold and the silver medal at the age of 42- what more do you want? I didn't have that much time to prepare for these Games. I want to thank once again the girls from my team- because these two medals are team medals."
On whether she is planning to participate in the Beijing 2008 Summer Games:
"I don't want to scare anyone here right now. I will see what happens next year and then make a decision. Which person in this room knows what he or she is going to do in four years?"
Katalin KOVACS (HUN) – gold medallist
On Birgit FISCHER (GER):
“We knew there was tough competition against FISCHER. We took nothing for granted. We did not underestimate her. I have the greatest respect for her.”
Natasa JANICS (HUN) – gold medallist
On the gold:
“I am delighted about this race and the gold medal as a whole and of course my result. It is a fantastic feeling. I am very happy, because we remained focused.”
On racing with FISCHER:
“I am also very happy to compete with FISCHER. I have been watching her career for many years but I’ve never met her. You can learn a lot from somebody that has so many gold medals from Olympic Games and World Championships.”
On her training for the Games:
“We have been preparing for this since Sydney. I was 18 then and came fourth, which was not a nice result. This has been a good year and I would be sad if I did not get the medal.”
